Historic Huguenot Street Receives Greater Hudson Heritage Network Awards for Excellence
NEW PALTZ, NY (September 14, 2018) – Historic Huguenot Street is honored to receive the Greater Hudson Heritage Network Awards for Excellence for two significant projects: “In Her Words: A Women’s History Lecture and Performance” and “Living In Style: Selections from George Way Collection of Dutch Fine and Decorative Art.” GHHN awards are made to projects that exemplify creativity and professional vision resulting in a contribution to the preservation and interpretation of the historic scene, material culture, and diversity of the region.
The education award is in recognition of “In Her Words,” performed at Historic Huguenot Street March 10, 2018. Developed by Historic Huguenot Street’s public programming department with the assistance of SUNY New Paltz intern Allison Surgeary, the tour followed the lives and stories of eight influential women who helped shape local history over the last four centuries. Through monologues and music derived from historical research and in collaboration with local historians and scholars, the audience was given a glimpse these women's dreams, fears, flaws, and challenges during momentous times in the region's history.
The project award is in recognition of the catalogue and exhibition presented by Historic Huguenot Street’s curatorial department, “Living In Style: Selections from George Way Collection of Dutch Fine and Decorative Art,” celebrating the impact of Dutch culture in the Hudson Valley and extended through December 16, 2018. Featuring more than one hundred 17th- and 18th-century Dutch items from the Netherlands, the exhibition provides visitors with an immersive encounter by placing the objects as they would have been centuries ago in a Dutch home. The Living in Style fully illustrated 56-page color catalogue features over 75 images of individual objects in the exhibition, as well as installation views of the room.
The awards will be presented at the GHHN Flipping the Narrative Annual Conference on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the Bear Mountain Inn & Conference Center, Bear Mountain, New York. For more information about programs and exhibits at HHS, please visit huguenotstreet.org.

A National Historic Landmark District, Historic Huguenot Street is a 501(c)3 non-profit that encompasses 30 buildings across 10 acres comprising the heart of the original 1678 New Paltz settlement, including seven stone houses dating to the early eighteenth century.
