Join Historic Huguenot Street for an evening of live music, cocktails & dessert to celebrate the behind-the-scenes efforts that keep the stories of the Mid-Hudson Valley alive.
Saturday, September 14, 2019, from 6 to 9:30 PM
As Historic Huguenot Street celebrates another successful year, we will showcase the ongoing work to preserve and interpret the Mid-Hudson Valley’s history and architectural heritage. Join us for an evening of seasonal food and drinks, live music, and exclusive access to the unique stories of the region at Historic Huguenot Street’s annual Fall Harvest Celebration.
Our honoree
Retiring after more than a decade on the Board of Trustees of Historic Huguenot Street, Stephen Lumb has dedicated himself to the protection of the nationally important treasures on the site. A descendant of the original Huguenot patentees and a graduate of the Harvard MBA program, Lumb has shepherded Historic Huguenot Street to new heights as the museum’s treasurer.
our keynote speaker
An American author, historian, and journalist, Russell Shorto is best known for his award-winning book on the Dutch origins of New York City, The Island at the Center of the World. Shorto’s work has won him wide acclaim including being named the New Netherland Research Center’s 2013 Senior Scholar and a Dutch knighthood in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
His most recent works include Amsterdam: A History of the World’s Most Recent Cities and Revolution Song: A Story of American Freedom, a history of the American Revolution from the eyes of four Americans from vastly different walks of life. Signed copies of his books will be available in the DuBois Fort Visitor Center during the Fall Harvest Celebration.
As the evening’s keynote speaker, Shorto will address his work and its connections to the Mid-Hudson Valley, which he recently described as the “spine of the colony” in New York in an essay for the New York Times’ Travel Section.
