Due to the weather forecast tomorrow, Saturday, July 3, HHS has decided to cancel the encampment. Hope to see you on the street soon for the other great events this summer!
Historic Huguenot Street’s annual Revolutionary War encampment returns on Saturday, July 3, with the 1st Ulster Militia and the 5th NY Regiment. Reenactors will set up camp across the street from the DuBois Fort Visitor Center (81 Huguenot Street) and will perform a number of demonstrations throughout the day, beginning at 10 AM.
Living historians will demonstrate marching and drilling every hour, beginning at 10:30 AM, showing how arms at the time were handled and fired. An armament demonstration will display various types of muskets and weaponry while members explain how they were used, fired, and maintained.
At 11 AM and 2 PM, be sure to catch the 1st Ulster Militia’s Hank Yost talk on militia organization, linear battle tactics, and the technology of weaponry, such the flint “lock,” rolling paper cartridges, the use of the bayonet, and other arcane skills.
Additional demonstrations and displays will reveal aspects of civilian life, coopering, woodworking, writing, and colonial cooking, as well as the portrayal of an 18th century surgeon.
This is a free, outdoor event. Respectful social distancing is encouraged.
