Join us on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 7-8 PM for a special virtual presentation that will highlight two paintings by 19th-century American portrait artist, Ammi Phillips, that were stolen and missing from HHS for fifty years. The two portraits, returned with the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, depict prominent New Paltz residents Dirck D. Wynkoop (1738-1827) and his wife Annatje Eltinge (1748-1827). This talk will feature presentations by Josephine Bloodgood, HHS Director of Curatorial and Preservation Affairs and Carol Johnson, HHS Trustee and Coordinator of the Haviland-Heidgerd Historical Collection at Elting Memorial Library. Together, they will relay the story of the paintings’ shocking theft and amazing recovery.
This program will be presented entirely online, via a link provided after registration.
